Mosiria helps boda boda rider recover repossessed motorcycle after talks

Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Customer Engagement and Citizen Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has stepped in to help a young boda boda rider who had been struggling to keep his motorcycle after it was repossessed by a loan company over unpaid instalments. In a post shared via his Instagram page on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Mosiria said the case had come to his attention after a viral video of the rider pleading for help touched many Kenyans, sparking widespread public concern over his situation.

“Many people tagged me in the case of this young boda boda rider whose motorcycle was repossessed by a loan company due to unpaid loan instalments. A video of him at the company’s offices pleading for help touched the hearts of many Kenyans,” Mosiria stated.

According to Mosiria, the rider’s troubles began long before the repossession drama. He explained that the young man originally owned a motorcycle, but after handing it over to someone to operate on his behalf, things took a bad turn when it was allegedly used in a robbery and later burnt beyond repair. Life, as they say, sometimes switches gears without warning, and this was clearly one of those moments where things went from bad to worse.

“Today, I met him and listened to his story. He explained that he originally owned a motorcycle, but after giving it to someone to operate on his behalf, it was allegedly used in a robbery and was later burnt beyond repair,” Mosiria said.

The situation later took another twist when content creator Eric Omondi stepped in and helped raise funds so the rider could get another motorcycle. Things seemed to be improving, but trouble returned when a loan company repossessed the bike, citing unpaid dues. The rider insists he believed the motorcycle had been fully paid for him, only to discover later it was actually under a hire-purchase agreement.

“After his situation went viral, Eric Omondi came through for him and helped raise funds to get him another motorcycle. Things seemed to be going well until a few months later, when a loan company repossessed the motorcycle, citing unpaid dues,” Mosiria stated.

The rider says he has already paid over Ksh300,000, and the repossession came as a shock since he believed he was already in the clear. Following discussions at the company’s offices, Mosiria said both sides reached an understanding and agreed on a payment plan, with the company also agreeing to help him recover the motorcycle. In short, it looks like the matter has finally found a bit of calm after a very bumpy road.

“The young man says he was shocked because he allegedly understood that the motorcycle had been fully purchased for him and that he was not expected to make any further payments. He claims he only later discovered that the motorcycle had been acquired through a hire-purchase arrangement,” Mosiria said.

Mosiria added that the goal now is to ensure the rider gets back on his feet and continues earning a living without further stress. He also called for peace between the rider and Eric Omondi so they can sort out any misunderstandings directly. In the end, everyone seems to agree on one thing: the boda boda rider just needs his machine back and his hustle back on track, because in Nairobi traffic, every minute off the road feels like a whole economic shutdown.

“My hope is that this matter will be resolved peacefully and that the young man can continue earning a living and supporting his family,” Mosiria stated.
