Mosiria appeals for prayers as rescued street woman begins rehabilitation

Nairobi County’s Environment Chief Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, has appealed to Kenyans to pray for and support a woman he recently rescued from the streets of Nairobi as she begins her journey toward recovery from substance abuse.
In a statement shared through his X account on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Mosiria revealed that Mercy Karemi, a woman who had been living on the streets of Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), has now been admitted to a rehabilitation centre where she is receiving treatment.
Mosiria said Mercy had been enduring difficult conditions while living on the streets, including a serious eye infection that had left one of her eyes discharging pus.
The county official said he first came across Mercy while she was sleeping outside in the city centre and struggling with the effects of long-term substance abuse. He noted that her admission to the rehabilitation facility marks an important step toward rebuilding her life.
“Do you remember Mercy Karemi, the lady I rescued from the streets of Nairobi CBD, where she was sleeping outside and suffering, with one eye discharging pus? Today, she has been admitted to Rapid Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction and is receiving treatment. She had been struggling with substance abuse for a long time,” he stated.

Mosiria expressed confidence that with proper medical care, counselling and support, Mercy’s condition will improve significantly in the coming months. He said her transformation could be so remarkable that many people may struggle to recognise her.
“I want to assure you that with proper care, love, prayers, and rehabilitation, her future is bright. In three months, you may not recognize her transformation; she will be a completely different person,” he added.
The Environment Chief Officer also used Mercy’s story to highlight the challenges faced by many people living on the streets, urging Kenyans not to judge them too quickly. According to him, many street families are battling hardships that are often hidden behind their daily struggles.
“Let us protect and show love to street families. Most of them are not on the streets by choice. Behind every person on the street is a story of pain, rejection, poverty, or misfortune. Let us extend a helping hand whenever we can. Together, we can rescue lives and restore hope,” Mosiria said.
“May God bless everyone who supports and prays for those in need,” Mosiria said.
