Gospel singer Moji Shortbabaa has opened up about the struggles many women face when trying to choose gifts for men as Father’s Day approaches.

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, he explained that gifting men is not as simple as it looks and often leaves many people confused about what is appropriate.

He noted that most women end up choosing common items because they feel safe and acceptable. However, he added that even these familiar gifts are not always received in the way they are intended, which makes the process more complicated.

Moji Shortbabaa said, “Okay, tukubaliane, kugift mwanaume ni ngumu, ni ngumu sana, that is why ladies mnatuuwa na socks.”

He explained that socks and ties have become the most common gifts for men over time. According to him, this has created a routine where people keep repeating the same items every year.

He added, “Tuko karibu kuuliwa na socks na tie, na hatutaki mtuue nazo.”

Challenges behind gifting men and expectations

Moji Shortbabaa noted that even when women try to be thoughtful, the reaction from men can sometimes discourage them. He explained that some gifts are interpreted differently depending on how they are received.

He said that even flowers, which are seen as a simple gesture in many cases, do not always work when given to men. He added that this has made gifting more restrictive than expected.

Moji Shortbabaa stated, “Na hauwezi pea mwanaume maua.”

Moji Shortbabaa said, “Unapea mwanaume maua anakuambia, what are you trying to say about me? I am masculine, what are you trying to say about me?”

He added that because of these reactions, many women avoid experimenting with different gift ideas. He explained that this leaves socks and ties as the default option in most cases.

Away from the Father’s Day conversation, Moji Shortbabaa and his wife, Nyawira Gachugi, welcomed their first child in December 2025. The couple announced the arrival of their baby girl in an Instagram post, describing her as a long-awaited blessing.

Nyawira shared that their daughter arrived in a world filled with love and had been eagerly awaited by family and friends. The couple expressed gratitude for the support they received throughout the journey, including constant check-ins and encouragement from their close circle.
