Mbavu Destroyer vows to bounce back after revisiting boxing match loss to Majembe
By Valerian Khakayi, August 6, 2026Fast-rising boxer Ferdinand Omondi, popularly known as Mbavu Destroyer, has declared that he will return stronger after revisiting his boxing match loss to fellow boxer Portifas Odipo alias Majembe.
Taking to social media on Thursday, August 6,2026, Mbavu shared a video from their previous bout and admitted that watching the footage had reignited his determination adding that one day he would become a champion.
“Hizi ni vitu gani zinaniamsha saii, Nkt, It might not be today, it might not be tomorrow, but one thing that I know for sure is that one day just one,” Mbavu said.
“I will be a champion, nimejaaa ngori na itakua mbayaaaaa.”
Vurugu Night Fight
The rivalry between the two entertainers dates back to April 4, 2026, when they squared off during the inaugural Vurugu Boxing Challenge held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi.
The bout attracted significant attention online and inside the arena, with both fighters entertaining fans through their intense rivalry before and during the match.
On that night, Majembe was declared the winner by unanimous decision after scoring more points from the three judges against his much-hyped rival, Mbavu Destroyer.
The bout, initially scheduled for ten rounds, lasted only four rounds and was called off after Mbavu Destroyer could not continue due to what appeared to be a blow below the belt.
Oga Obinna, the Vurugu Match organiser, and Reuben Ndolo, the boxing official, handed over the winner’s belt to the eventual winner.
The bout began with Majembe aggressively pursuing Mbavu Destroyer in his corner.
Post-Vurugu fight
Months later, Mbavu appears to be using that setback as motivation. By revisiting the fight and publicly declaring his ambition to become a champion, he has signalled that he is not giving up on his boxing journey.
His latest post has since sparked reactions from fans, with many encouraging him to keep training and praising his determination to bounce back stronger after the loss.
Rematch
The two have publicly exchanged words and hinted at meeting on the date 15 at Dubai Complex in Nyamasaria for a bout rematch
Even so, the online exchanges have already built anticipation, with supporters of both camps predicting another entertaining clash.
Should the rematch happen, it will be an opportunity for Majembe to prove that his first victory was no fluke, while Mbavu Destroyer will be looking for redemption and a chance to even the score.
