She explained that holding on to the hospital bag was part of her grief. According to Marya, it took six years before she was ready to let go of the belongings. She said the decision came on her daughter’s birthday.
Recalling the final moments
Marya also spoke about what happened before she lost her child. She said everything had been going well until the day she started having contractions. She recalled contacting her doctor as soon as she noticed something was wrong.
“Everything was perfect until the day I started contracting, when I went into labour,” Marya Prude said.

She said she believes things could have been handled differently. Marya explained that after calling her doctor, she was advised to go to his clinic instead of the hospital. She believes that decision affected what happened next.
“Do I think the doctor could have done better? Yes. I think it was avoidable. It was avoidable,” Marya Prude said.
Marya went on to explain that she reached out for medical help as soon as she began feeling unwell. She said she expected to be directed to a hospital immediately. Instead, she said she was told to go to the doctor’s clinic first.
“I called the doctor when I started feeling some type of way; I called the doctor. Instead of telling us to go to the hospital, he told us to go to his clinic,” Marya Prude said.
She said that by the time she finally arrived at the hospital, it was too late. Marya believes the outcome may have been different if they had gone directly to the hospital. She shared the painful memory while reflecting on the loss she has carried since 2019.
