Lydia Wanjiru shares safety advice with women after unsettling encounter with man

In a post shared on her Instagram page on Friday, September 25, 2026, Lydia encouraged women not to ignore feelings that something is wrong simply because they cannot immediately explain them.
Her message comes after she previously shared an experience in which she became concerned that she was being followed while running errands.
Lydia urges women to trust their gut
Lydia said women should pay attention to their surroundings and take their instincts seriously, particularly when they sense that a situation may not be safe. She noted that women can sometimes notice signs of danger before they can clearly explain what has made them uncomfortable.
“Be paranoid. Be observant. Be the woman who trusts your gut! Never let anyone convince you that ‘it’s all in your head’,” she said.
Lydia further encouraged women not to silence their instincts just to avoid making another person uncomfortable. “As women, we often sense when something isn’t right before we can even explain why. When your intuition says ‘danger’, listen. Don’t dismiss it or silence it just to make someone else comfortable,” she added.
Lydia recalls being followed
Lydia’s message comes after she previously revealed that she believed a man was following her while she was out running errands.
According to Lydia, she became suspicious after noticing the man following her. To establish whether she was actually being followed, she decided to enter a chemist and see if the man would continue following her.
The man also entered the chemist, which further raised her concern. Lydia said he looked at her before eventually leaving the premises. After the incident, she decided not to continue with her errands and instead went home.
‘Sometimes, that cost is your life’
Reflecting on the experience, Lydia said women should not be afraid of trusting their instincts even when there is a possibility they may be wrong. She argued that ignoring an uncomfortable feeling can have more serious consequences than taking precautions.
“You’d rather trust your instincts and be wrong than ignore them and wish you had listened,” Lydia said.
She concluded her message by pointing to the possible consequences of overlooking warning signs. “Because sometimes, being proven right comes at a cost, and sometimes, that cost is your life,” she said.
Lydia’s message has therefore centred on awareness and personal safety, encouraging women to pay attention to their surroundings and act when something does not feel right.
