Digital content creator Liz Jackson has sparked conversation online after reflecting on her recent trip to Cape Town, where she praised the city’s organisation and public systems while contrasting them with what she described as challenges in Kenya’s transport sector.

Jackson shared her remarks on her Instagram page on Sunday, June 7, 2026, while on tour in Cape Town. In her reflections, she highlighted what she called “better systems and discipline” in how public transport and road users operate.

According to Jackson, exposure to different countries often raises questions about how systems are run back home. “When you travel and experience better systems, you wonder what is wrong with your country,” she said.

She noted that in Cape Town, road users appear to strictly follow traffic regulations, with vehicles stopping at traffic lights and pedestrians using designated crossing points.

She added that ride-hailing services also operate in an orderly manner, with clear systems in place that reduce unnecessary negotiation between drivers and passengers.

Orderly public transport system

Jackson further praised the structure of public transport in Cape Town, saying buses and other services only stop at designated areas, reducing congestion and confusion commonly seen in other cities.

She described the system as more organised, with fewer interruptions and what she termed as “unnecessary chaos” often associated with informal transport systems.

Her comments also highlighted the absence of conductors in similar roles seen in other regions, saying the system appears more streamlined and structured.

Environmental cleanliness and hygiene

Jackson also pointed out what she described as strong environmental awareness, noting the presence of designated waste disposal points and general cleanliness in public spaces.

She contrasted this with what she claimed are challenges in some urban transport hubs elsewhere, particularly around waste disposal and general upkeep.

Her remarks touched on broader concerns about hygiene standards in public transport environments, urging more discipline and responsibility among users and operators.

Public reaction

Her comments have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that well-organised systems abroad highlight areas that need improvement locally, while others argued that each country faces unique challenges shaped by economic and social realities.

The debate continues to draw attention to broader discussions around urban planning, public transport regulation, and civic responsibility across African cities.
