Karen Nyamu makes new promise to Ruto after being booed with Wantam chants at KICC
By Steve Ireri, September 28, 2026Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has revealed what the ‘Wantam’ chants that greeted her at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) will not make her do, reaffirming her support for President William Ruto despite the public backlash.
In a Facebook post on Monday, September 28, 2026, Nyamu said she would not abandon her political position merely to win the approval of a crowd, making it clear that the reception she received at the endometriosis awareness event had not changed her stance.
Nyamu said she remained firmly behind President Ruto, arguing that she would not trade her political convictions for what she described as “a few cheap cheers”.
“I stand firmly behind President William Ruto because he is the only candidate I see with a clear plan for this country. I won’t join Wantam for a few cheap cheers. Even God is Tutam ✌🏾,” she said.
Nyamu had taken to the stage to speak about the cause and her efforts in Parliament before sections of the crowd began chanting ‘Wantam’, forcing her to cut her address short.
Despite the reaction from the crowd, Nyamu insisted that the incident would not push her into abandoning her support for Ruto, instead using her latest statement to reaffirm where she stands politically.
Nyamu has also said she wished the attention generated by the incident had instead remained on Githinji and the endometriosis awareness campaign, arguing that the event was supposed to centre on the cause and the women whose experiences were being highlighted.
“Yesterday was supposed to be about Natalie and Endo awareness. I wish she were trending today instead of me. I wish all TV and Radio shows this morning were about her story and not about me,” she said.
She said she had noticed the different outfits Githinji wore during the event and the celebrities who turned up to support her, while also highlighting the testimonies shared by endometriosis warriors.
“Did you notice she changed outfits several times? Did you see the artists and celebrities who showed up for her? Did you hear the endo warriors speak? The subject was endometriosis, yet somehow the take-home for the high-budget event became Karen Nyamu wa Tutam ✌🏾,” she said.
