Hata haiwezi nunua bhajia – Kanyari calls out congregants over small offerings

Pastor Victor Kanyari has rebuked his congregants over the size of offerings collected during a church service, questioning the amounts given by some members.

While addressing the congregation on Sunday, September 20, 2026, Kanyari asked church ushers to bring the offering envelopes to the pulpit, remove the envelopes and place the cash on the pulpit so that the congregation could see the money that had been collected.

“Mwaga hapa. Toa bahasha watu waone. Hii lazima tutrend leo,” Kanyari said.

The pastor then referred to the different amounts that had been contributed, listing Ksh100, Ksh50, Ksh20, Ksh10 and Ksh5 among the cash he had seen.

Kanyari questions the small contributions

Kanyari appeared to challenge the congregation over the small denominations, drawing attention to the amounts displayed on the pulpit.

He questioned the size of the offering while addressing members during the service, highlighting the various amounts that had been contributed.

The pastor also addressed criticism directed at his church over its approach to offerings.

Kanyari referenced claims that his church pressures congregants to give offerings.

“Halafu watu wanasema kanisa la Kanyari, kazi ya Kanyari ni kulitisha sadaka,” he said.

He then contrasted those claims with the amounts that had been collected, before making a comment about the value of the offering.

Turning his attention back to the money displayed on the pulpit, Kanyari said the offering was so little that it could not even buy a bhajia.

“Hii sadaka, hii hata huwezi kula bhajia. Amen?” he said.

Kanyari has also continued his push for the Kasarani parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, stepping up his campaign as he seeks to transition from religious leadership into elective politics.

Kanyari said that, if elected, he would push for improvements to roads in the constituency while ensuring children have access to education.

Speaking during the service, Kanyari said improving roads would be among his priorities and pledged to ensure children in Kasarani are able to pursue their education.

“Na tutatengeneza barabara. Watoto watasoma,” he said.

He also made a broad pledge on school fees, saying no child in Kasarani would have to pay school fees if he is elected as the constituency’s Member of Parliament.

“Mimi nikichaguliwa kuwa mbunge wa Kasarani, hakuna mtoto atalipa school fees. Hata kidogo,” Kanyari said.
