Green card dilemma: Nurse Judy compelled to leave US for Kenya

Judy shared the emotional news on Instagram on Thursday, September 10, 2026, revealing that she has been crying for days as she comes to terms with one of the hardest decisions she has had to make.
She said she plans to leave, or rather pause, her life in the US and return home to be with her family until their circumstances align and they finally obtain their green cards.
‘For now, walai sijui what comes next,’ Judy wrote, admitting that she does not know what the decision will mean for her career, plans or goals.
Despite the uncertainty, she said she is trusting God and believes things will eventually work out.
Judy misses her children’s milestones
Judy said one of the biggest reasons behind her decision is the time she has missed with her children while living thousands of miles away.
She revealed that she missed two major milestones: her daughter finishing primary school and her son turning eight.
‘Moments I would have given anything to physically be there for,’ she said.
Judy, however, promised to celebrate the milestones with her children once she gets home.
Praises her husband
The nurse also praised her husband for being a present father and supporting their children while she pursued her dreams in the US.
She said his presence has made being away from the children more bearable and allowed her to focus on building her career knowing that their children were loved, protected and cared for.
Judy described herself and her husband as a team, saying they have supported each other through different seasons of their lives, including difficult periods in their relationship.
‘Now it’s my turn to choose presence for a while,’ she said.
Putting her career on hold
Judy acknowledged that returning home could affect some of the goals she has been working towards.
She said her career will take a pause, and some of her plans may have to wait, although she remains hopeful about what the future holds.
‘Maybe God will surprise me & open doors I haven’t even imagined yet,’ she said.
For now, Judy said her priority is being with her children, husband and family.
‘Right now, I just want to go home. To my babies. To my husband. To my family. Everything else, tutapanga mbele,’ she wrote.
