President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, has opened up about his decision to pursue entrepreneurship instead of relying on his family position for a comfortable life at State House.

Speaking in an interview on Saturday, June 13, 2026, he said his focus was on building his own path rather than remaining in political spaces defined by his father’s office.

“Because I’m the son of the president doesn’t mean I should sit in the State House and sit the whole day like others have been doing,” George said.

Choosing his own path

George said his drive for entrepreneurship comes from a desire to work independently and create opportunities beyond his family name.

He recounted how people reacted with surprise when he ventured into various sectors.

“When I started doing my own thing… when I went into the food, into the football space, when I went into all these different things that people didn’t expect, they started asking questions,” he explained. Some even speculated about presidential influence or veto power behind his move.

Question on influence

When questioned on the link between his presidential lineage and business success.

“Is there really a correlation between being the son of the president and starting your own business?” the interviewer asked.

George dismissed the assumption that his background automatically defines his success, saying his ventures are self-driven.

Passion over privilege

He said his motivation is anchored on impact, especially among young people who look up to him.

“What I can tell those people is that it’s a passion. I really want to touch the lives of these young people because I have the capability,” he said.

George added that access to resources and networks should be used constructively rather than as a reason to remain idle.

George’s business interests span multiple sectors. He is known for investing in luxury matatus, including popular ones like “Mood” and “MoneyFest”, the food industry, and football development through initiatives.

George stressed that he avoids using his position for unfair advantage and prefers merit-based progress.

“I never use the position I have now to help where I can,” he said.
