Geoffrey Mosiria: It hurts to be called mumama because of helping women and children

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has opened up about the criticism he faces over his efforts to support women, children and other vulnerable members of society.
Mosiria shared his frustrations in a post on Instagram on Tuesday, September 28, 2026, saying that being labelled “mumama” because he supported women and children had affected him.
His remarks came amid an ongoing public dispute between him and comedian and media personality Oga Obinna, which has now escalated into legal demands from both sides.
Mosiria speaks about being called ‘mumama’
Mosiria said much of the work he does is driven by calls from people seeking help, rather than a desire to attract attention. He said he has continued responding to women, widows, single mothers, children, and vulnerable boys who reach out to him during difficult situations.
“Kwa nini inauma na ni uchungu sana kuita mwanaume mwenzako mumama juu anasaidia wamama, watoto, wajane, single mothers na vulnerable boychild ambao wanateswa?” Mosiria said.
He explained that helping people has sometimes meant sacrificing his own comfort and time to respond to those who need assistance. “Sio kupenda kwangu, ni vile wananipigia simu wakilia, ‘Mosiria tusaidie.’ Najinyima usingizi na joto ya kitanda ili niwasaidie,” he added.
Mosiria also admitted that the criticism has taken a toll on him, asking Kenyans to pray for him and support him as he continues with his work.
‘Mentally, I’m not okay’
The county official said the repeated criticism has affected him emotionally, particularly as he feels targeted by some leaders because of the assistance he offers. “Tangu niitwe mumama, mentally I’m not okay, and I need prayers and support from Kenyans,” he said.
Mosiria further claimed that he had faced opposition from some leaders who, according to him, did not want to see him helping members of the public. “Nimeteswa sana na viongozi ambao hawataki kuona nasaidia. Sikujua Kenya ukijituma kufanya kazi unakuwa adui ya viongozi,” he said.
He added that his experience had made him question why helping people could attract hostility.
Mosiria and Oga Obinna’s legal dispute
Mosiria’s statement comes as his public disagreement with Oga Obinna continues to unfold.
On September 17, 2026, lawyers representing Obinna issued a demand letter to Mosiria seeking an apology, removal of the disputed content, a retraction, and Ksh10 million in damages over defamatory statements. The demand gave Mosiria seven days to comply.
Obinna later indicated that the deadline had passed and that he intended to pursue the matter further.
Mosiria, however, has disputed the claims and publicly said he did not know the Kenyan entertainer being referred to as Oga Obinna, maintaining that the only Obinna he knew was a Nigerian friend whom he had previously helped.
Mosiria issues fresh legal demand
The latest development is a formal legal demand dated September 28, 2026, which, according to the letter provided, was issued by lawyers representing Mosiria.
The letter accuses content creator Steve Thompson Magana, popularly known as Oga Obinna, of publishing material on his YouTube channel and other social media platforms that questioned Mosiria’s character and subjected him to public ridicule.
The letter further claims that the remarks contributed to bullying and harassment directed at Mosiria’s school-aged children.
Mosiria’s lawyers are demanding that the disputed content be removed, that a public retraction and apology be issued, and that Ksh20 million be paid as damages within seven days.
The lawyers have warned that failure to comply with the demands could lead to civil proceedings over the defamation.
For Mosiria, however, the dispute has also brought attention to the personal side of the criticism, particularly his claim that the “mumama” label has affected him as he continues to support people who approach him for help.
