Content creator Fao Shyshy has opened up about the personal lessons she has learned after distancing herself from what she described as toxic and manipulative relationships.

In a post shared on her Instagram page on Sunday, July 26, 2026, Fao said she had spent time researching the subject and reflected on how certain relationships can continue affecting people even after they have ended.

She explained that stepping away from unhealthy connections had become one of the most valuable lessons she has learned in her life.

Says some people thrive on emotional reactions

Fao noted that some people do not easily accept being cut off, especially if they have benefited from someone’s time, attention or emotions.

According to her, maintaining emotional reactions towards such people can make it harder to move on.

“You don’t fully understand this yet, but people who have intentionally positioned themselves to extract from you don’t just walk away when you try to disconnect. They don’t need closeness. They need access,” she wrote.

She added that the strongest way to break free is to stop giving people emotional control over your life.

‘Don’t keep replaying the past’

The content creator also encouraged her followers to pay attention to how they respond after leaving unhealthy relationships.

She said feelings such as anger, resentment, or the constant need to prove a point can make it difficult to move forward.

“If they can’t bond with you, they will bind you through your reaction. That’s the part most people miss,” she said.

Fao explained that healing is not only about ending contact but also about letting go of the emotions that keep people tied to painful experiences.

Focus on healing and moving forward

She encouraged her followers to release negative emotions instead of repeatedly revisiting painful memories.

According to Fao, choosing peace means refusing to let past experiences continue controlling the present. “So the work is not just cutting them off. You do not allow anything they trigger in you to remain unresolved. You release it quickly, intentionally, and fully,” she wrote.

She also urged people to reflect on how they feel whenever they think about someone who hurt them.

“When you think about them, what emotion immediately rises? Are you still replaying conversations in your head? That’s the connection you need to let go of,” she added.

Fao concluded by encouraging her followers to focus on personal growth instead of dwelling on painful experiences. She said that every time people refuse to revisit old hurt, they take another step towards healing and becoming emotionally stronger.

Her message attracted reactions from followers, with many thanking her for sharing advice that they said reflected their own experiences with unhealthy relationships and the importance of protecting their peace.
