Eric Omondi reveals Mike Sonko supported Natalie with Ksh400K but skipped KICC event
By Valerian Khakayi, September 29, 2026Stand-up comedian and activist Eric Omondi has revealed that former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko supported endometriosis warrior Natalie Githinji with Ksh400,000 but did not attend her Endometriosis Warriors event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
“Sonko Ali support Natalie na Ksh 400K na hakukuja KICC,” Eric Omondi said on Tuesday, September 29,2026.
Omondi made the revelation as he addressed the controversy surrounding the attendance of politicians at the event held on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
His remarks come amid continued debate over nominated Senator Karen Nyamu’s decision to attend the event despite organisers having agreed that politicians would not be allowed to attend.
Karen Nyamu’s saga
Omondi questioned Nyamu’s attendance, saying she had contacted him before the event to express her interest in supporting Githinji.
“Karen Nyamu sijawai mwongelesha na alinipigia jana akisema anataka kusupport Natalie,” Omondi said.
He said he told Nyamu that Githinji had been trying to reach her and encouraged her to contact her directly.
“Nikamwambia Natalie amekutafuta sana nikamwambia uko na number yake? Nikamwambia event inaendelea si uko na number yake mtumie pesa,” he added.
According to Omondi, Nyamu subsequently sent Githinji KSh100,000 but did not inform him that she planned to attend the event.
“Hakuniambia anakuja event,” Omondi stated.
Omondi explained that organisers had agreed that politicians would not attend the gathering to prevent the conversation from shifting away from endometriosis.
“We had given orders kwa gate, no politicians because they would divert conversation, and it was about endometriosis and Natalie,” he said.
He said the decision was based on two reasons, including concerns about political figures failing to support Githinji financially.
“The brief was very simple: no politicians allowed because of two reasons,” Omondi said.
“Reason number one, hakuna politician hatuupigia simu hata sai Natalie ako na deni hajamaliza kulipa KICC na sound; there is no single women rep ama aspirant at least in Nairobi hatukupigia. None of them supported Natalie,” he added.
Omondi said the second reason was to ensure the event remained focused on endometriosis.
“Reason number two, we did not want you to come and divert our message and attention from endometriosis,” he said.
He further questioned why Nyamu could not allow Githinji to have the spotlight during an event dedicated to her advocacy work.
“Ata wewe ulijua ni nini itafanyika, kwa nini haungepatia Natalie moment yake?” Omondi asked.
Nyamu attended the KICC event and addressed the gathering on endometriosis, but sections of the crowd interrupted her with “Wantam” chants. She later defended her decision to attend, saying she had an interest in the cause and had been involved in efforts to advance endometriosis-related issues through Parliament.
