Ed Sheeran crowned UK’s most played artist for a record eighth time
By Paulette Mboga, May 27, 2026British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has once again emerged as the most-played artist in the United Kingdom, marking the eighth time he has earned the title in the last 11 years.
The ranking was released by Phonographic Performance Limited, commonly known as PPL, which tracks music played across television, radio stations, and public venues.
The British singer-songwriter topped the list ahead of Taylor Swift, who finished second, while Dua Lipa secured the third spot. The latest ranking further highlights Sheeran’s strong presence in the music industry and his continued popularity across the UK.

Speaking after receiving the recognition, Sheeran thanked people for continuing to support and play his music over the years.
“I am so grateful to be named most-played artist across TV, radio and venues across the UK for an incredible eighth time,” he said, according to an article by The Independent.
The singer also appreciated everyone who has supported his music throughout his career, saying the achievement means a lot to him.
“A huge thanks to everyone who has played my music over the last year, and over the last 15 years. I really appreciate the continuing support,” Sheeran added.
Data released by PPL
According to data released by PPL, Sheeran’s songs were played an average of 574 times daily. This translates to around 24 plays every hour across different platforms and public spaces in the country.

Other artists who made it into the top 10 list include Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Coldplay, Elton John, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Lady Gaga.
Meanwhile, Myles Smith earned the most-played song of 2025 with “Nice To Meet You.” Other songs that appeared on the list include “Messy” by Lola Young, “Ordinary” by Alex Warren and “People Watching” by Sam Fender.
PPL is responsible for collecting royalties for musicians and rights holders whenever music is played publicly or broadcast across the UK.
Breakthrough artists featured prominently in the Most Played Tracks list, with newer performers playing a major role in driving airplay. Artists including Smith, Lola Young, Benson Boone, Gracie Abrams, Chappell Roan and Olivia Dean reached across the Top 20.
