DJ Xclusive shares what surprised him about his dowry negotiations

The DJ, who recently held a traditional wedding ceremony, said the negotiations involved minutes, signatures and a document that was given to him afterwards.
“One thing I did not know is that these dowry negotiations are actually a formal meeting,” DJ Xclusive said on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
He explained that there was a secretary at the meeting, with one of the uncles from the woman’s side sitting aside and writing down the minutes.
DJ Xclusive said the process involved recording each item that the two sides agreed on during the negotiations. He explained that after an agreement was reached, the secretary would read it out to confirm that everyone had agreed to the details.
“There was a secretary, one of the uncles, wa upande wa msichana alikua kando anaandika minutes,” DJ Xclusive said.
He explained that the process continued as each item was discussed and agreed upon by those involved.
DJ Xclusive reveals the formal process
DJ Xclusive said he was surprised by how official the process became once the negotiations were completed. He explained that everything agreed on was read out before the final documents were prepared for signing.
“And once you agree on an item, tukishakubaliana anasoma, anasema yes tumekubaliana ni hivi na hivi, sawa,” DJ Xclusive said.
He explained that the confirmation helped ensure that the agreed items were properly recorded.
He said that after all the items had been read, the documents were prepared and he was required to sign them. DJ Xclusive said he was then given a copy of the document, which he described as a legal document.
“And when you are done, inasomwa yote na wamefanya duplicates, mimi na sign then unapewa copy, now this is a legal document,” DJ Xclusive said.
He added that the process was not something one could simply skip.
DJ Xclusive also recalled another detail from the meeting, saying there was no food while they were seated inside. He explained that he became thirsty during the process and had to wait until everything was completed.
“Hauwezi ruka hiyo story. Imagine. Na pale ndani tumekaa hakuna chakula. Nimekauka mdomo,” DJ Xclusive said.
