Ciru Muriuki clarifies remarks on dating younger men after flood of DMs

Media personality Ciru Muriuki has clarified recent comments about being open to dating younger men after receiving what she described as an overwhelming number of direct messages on social media.

In a video shared on her TikTok page on Friday, July 31, 2026, Ciru said many people had interpreted her earlier remarks as an invitation to approach her romantically, something she insisted was never her intention.

“When I said I would date younger, I didn’t mean I would date younger right now. Guys, please leave my DMs; I’m overwhelmed,” she said.

The broadcaster also made it clear that while she remains open to dating someone younger in the future, there are limits to what she considers realistic.

Ciru said men in their early twenties were simply too young for her and urged younger admirers to stop interpreting her comments as an invitation to pursue her.

“Please, if you are under the age of 25, please go. I’m just telling you nicely. What am I going to do with a 21-year-old? Where am I going to take you? I am just a woman with thoughts. That wasn’t an invitation,” she added.

Earlier comments sparked debate

Ciru’s clarification comes days after she opened up about relationships during an interview, where she revealed that she would not rule out dating a younger man.

She explained that age was not the deciding factor in a relationship, noting that maturity, emotional intelligence, shared values and mutual respect mattered more than a birth certificate.

Addressing the reaction, the 44-year-old maintained that she had simply been honest about what she would consider in a future relationship rather than announcing she was currently searching for one.

She also noted that women are often judged more harshly than men when they express interest in younger partners, arguing that society tends to view age-gap relationships differently depending on gender.
