Ciru Muriuki says people are surprised when they learn she is 44

Media personality Ciru Muriuki has spoken about ageing and said many people are surprised when they learn that she is 44 years old.
She explained that people from her generation are ageing differently from how older generations were viewed. She said she believes millennials are ageing more gracefully.
“Especially for our generation, a lot of people have started saying that there is something really interesting in how millennials are ageing. It is not like we look younger or …we are just ageing better, more gracefully,” Ciru Muriuki said in a podcast on Friday, July 24, 2026.

She explained that she does not believe she looks younger than people from Gen Z. However, she said she is confident about how she looks at her age. She said the difference is that many millennials have changed how people think about getting older.
“I will not say I look younger than a Gen Z, but I know I look good for my age,” Ciru Muriuki said.
Changing views on ageing
Ciru Muriuki also reflected on how she viewed people in their 40s when she was growing up. She explained that, at the time, reaching that age seemed much older than it does today. She said her opinion has changed over the years.
“Growing up, when I heard someone was in their 40s, they might as well be 90,” Ciru Muriuki said.

She went on to explain that people are often surprised when she tells them her age. She said they do not expect her to be 44 because they have a different picture of what someone in their 40s should look like. She used a light-hearted example to explain her point.
“But then now, when I tell people that I am 44, and they see this vessel, I don’t look like a CRE teacher…you know, wearing a sweater and a women’s guild…,” Ciru Muriuki said.
Her remarks focused on how views about ageing have changed over time. She explained that people no longer see those in their 40s the same way they once did. She said she believes many millennials are showing that it is possible to age gracefully while still feeling confident about how they look.
