Chiki Kuruka playfully questions why Declan Rice likes wearing extra-short shorts
By Paulette Mboga, June 24, 2026Chiki Kuruka has playfully questioned the fashion choice of football star Declan Rice, wondering why the midfielder prefers wearing his shorts extra short during matches.
She shared the light-hearted remark while praising Rice as one of her favourite footballers.
“Now. Anyone who follows me knows Declan Rice is one of my favourite players On AND off the pitch. Full stop,” Chiki Kuruka said on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
She made it clear that she admires the player both for his performances and his character. However, she said there was one thing about him that had caught her attention and left her curious.

Most players fold their shorts, making them look extra short for easy movement and comfort, while others view it as a signature style. The folding of shorts is common across different sports, including basketball.
Other than folding the shorts, some players cut holes in their socks to relieve muscle tension, improve blood flow, and prevent cramping. Tight team socks can compress the calf muscles during intense games, so players cut small slits or holes to release this pressure and stay comfortable on the pitch.
Her comments then took a humorous turn as she raised a question about the Arsenal midfielder’s appearance on the pitch. She appeared amused by his choice of football shorts and wondered why he preferred them that way.

“But, genuine question,” she added.
Chiki then shared the specific question that had sparked her curiosity. The remark was made in a playful tone as she spoke about one of the players she follows closely.
“Why does he like his shorts, EXTRA short??” Chiki Kuruka asked.
Football talks beyond Declan Rice
Beyond her comments about Rice, Chiki also weighed in on other football matters. She shared her thoughts on Ghana’s performance and explained that she was pleased with how events unfolded, where the Three Lions settled for a draw in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026.
“GHANA DEFENDED!!!” Chiki Kuruka said.
She suggested that the team’s approach was clear from the beginning. According to her, the result suited her because she had hoped neither side would leave disappointed.

“Clearly a defensive strategy from the start!” she said.
Chiki explained that her support for Arsenal made it difficult to watch some of her favourite players lose. At the same time, she said her connection to Africa made her want Ghana to perform well.
“I actually wanted a draw. I’m an Arsenal fan to my CORE, can’t see half my team lose,” she added.
“But I’m also an African, can’t see my peeps lose,” Chiki explained.
She concluded by highlighting the scenes she enjoyed most during the match. According to her, seeing supporters from different backgrounds celebrating together reflected the true spirit of sport.
“My favourite moments were when the camera went into the crowd, and Ghanaian and British fans were dancing away together,” Chiki said.
