Jackie Matubia celebrates daughter after swimming championship despite missing medal

Kenyan actress and media personality Jackie Matubia has celebrated her daughter Zari after completing her second and final Junior Championship Nationals, praising the young swimmer for improving her time despite missing out on a medal.
Matubia shared the update on her Instagram page on Sunday, August 23, 2026, thanking people who have supported her daughter throughout her swimming journey. The actress said Zari finished among the top seven competitors and, more importantly, recorded a new personal best.
Jackie celebrates Zari’s progress
While Zari did not return home with a medal, Matubia said the result was still worth celebrating because of the progress she made in the competition.
She highlighted the importance of improving time in swimming, noting that success is not only measured by medals but also by an athlete’s ability to perform better than before. “And if you know swimming, you know TIME IS EVERYTHING!” Matubia wrote.
She explained that the main goal is to keep racing against the clock, improve with every competition, and become better than one was previously. According to the actress, Zari achieved that goal by lowering her time and setting a new personal best during the championship.
‘We keep pushing’
Matubia also used the post to appreciate the people who have continued to encourage her daughter. “To every online auntie, uncle, friend and even stranger who has been cheering our girl on, thank you,” she wrote.
She said the support Zari has received means a lot to the family, especially as the young swimmer continues to take part in competitive events.
The actress also made it clear that missing out on a medal would not discourage them from continuing with the training. “So we keep pushing. We keep training. We keep believing. No discouragement, no getting tired,” she stated.
Dream of representing Kenya
Matubia has previously shared updates about Zari’s swimming activities, showing her support as the young athlete develops her skills. The latest competition is another step in that journey, with the actress already looking ahead to bigger opportunities for her daughter.
She ended her message by sharing her long-term dream of seeing Zari compete for Kenya at the Olympic Games. “Until we hear ‘Zari, representing Kenya at the Olympics…’ WE MOVE!” Matubia wrote.
For now, the focus remains on training, improving her times and gaining experience through competition.
With her second Junior Championship Nationals now complete, Zari leaves the event without a medal but with a new personal best and a top-seven finish to build on as she continues her swimming journey.
