Andrew Kibe explains why keeping your money in the bank could be a bad idea
By William Muthama, September 1, 2026Content Creator Andrew Kibe has shared his views on money and wealth creation, questioning the practice of keeping large amounts of cash sitting in a bank account without putting it to productive use.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Kibe argued that money should have a purpose rather than simply remain in the bank.
“For the love of, just money sitting in the bank doing nothing. That’s nonsensical. Doesn’t make any sense. Money just having money doing nothing,” he said.
Kibe went on to give a blunt assessment of people who keep their money in bank accounts.
“If you have money in the bank, you are a fool,” he said.
He argued that people should think beyond simply accumulating cash and instead consider how their money can be used to create more value.
“You’re working here. You’ve worked so hard in here. And then you take your money and go put it somewhere else. Are you mad?” Kibe said.
He questioned what money was doing if it was simply sitting in a bank account.
“Why do you have money in the bank? What is it doing sitting in the bank?” he asked.
‘Cash rich means you are poor’
Kibe also challenged the idea that being cash-rich automatically means someone is wealthy.
“Because these people who have real wealth, they don’t need cash,” he said.
He argued that people with significant wealth can access money when necessary and therefore do not necessarily need to keep large amounts of cash readily available.

“Cash rich means you are poor on this other side,” Kibe said.
According to him, having cash can sometimes be more about showing that one has money than actually building lasting wealth.
Kibe questions where the money comes from
Kibe also used an example of someone approaching him with Ksh1.5 million and asking what they should do with it.
His first question, he said, would be about the source of the money.
“Somebody comes to me, tells me, ‘Hey, Kibe, I have 1.5 million. What do I do with it?’ I’m like, ‘Where did you get the 1.5 million?’” he said.

He suggested that understanding how someone makes their money should be an important part of conversations about wealth creation.
The discussion also touched on money market funds (MMFs), with Kibe acknowledging them as a relatively safe option while noting that they offer comparatively modest returns.
He also questioned some of the investment schemes available to the public and emphasised the importance of understanding how different financial options work.
