Social media personality and political commentator Cassypool has travelled to Uganda to campaign for long-serving President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the East African country votes in its general elections.

Cassypool arrived in Uganda on Thursday, January 15, 2026, where he attended a campaign rally that President Museveni also attended.

After being given the chance to speak at the event, Cassypool took to the podium to deliver an emotional message to the president and the gathered supporters.

He said he had brought greetings from Kenya and expressed admiration for Museveni’s leadership, praising the president for the work he has done not only for Uganda but for the East African region as a whole.

“I have brought greetings from Kenya, and we love Mzee Museveni very much. We follow him closely,” he said.

He shared that he and many Kenyans had come to offer flowers as a token of respect and to acknowledge Museveni’s achievements.

“And we have come to give him flowers early to show that he is doing great work for both Ugandans and Kenyans, and for East Africa in general,” Cassypool added.

The social media personality did not limit his remarks to praise alone, as he also made a heartfelt appeal to Museveni, urging him to prioritise the unification of East Africa should he secure another term in office.

Cassypool said he hoped the president would take concrete steps to strengthen collaboration among East African nations, ensuring that the region functions as one cohesive entity.

While at it, he said his message reflected the aspirations of citizens across the region who seek stability, growth, and unity.

“But, President, I would like to appeal to you for one thing. Because I know people are voting for you in large numbers, I plead with you that when you secure the seat again, you work to unite East Africa and make it one region. Thank you so much,” he said.

Election setbacks

During the elections, which started early on Thursday, January 15, 2026, many reported logistical problems delayed voting in many parts of the country amid an internet shutdown.

Local TV stations reported that voters were frustrated as they queued at some polling stations in the capital, Kampala, where voting had yet to start in the general election.

The delays were blamed on failures of biometric identification kits, which some linked to the network outage, as well as a lack of equipment in some places.

The electoral agency apologised for the technical glitches and said officials were working to resolve them.
