Beyoncé teases Met Gala style as she ends 10-year absence from event

Beyoncé has set the internet ablaze after stepping out in a grape-purple Saint Laurent gown in Beverly Hills, just days before she is set to co-chair the 2026 Met Gala on Monday, May 4, 2026.

The superstar was photographed leaving Matsuhisa restaurant with her daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi, alongside singer Kelly Rowland and her son Titan.

While her companions dressed casually, Beyoncé arrived in a billowing gown from Saint Laurent‘s Spring/Summer 2026 collection, featuring exaggerated puff sleeves, a plunging neckline with a matching lace bra, ruffled trim, and a dramatic train.

She completed the look with dark sunglasses, a Cult Gaia clutch, a silver pearl drop necklace, and burgundy slingbacks.

The look also appeared on her official Instagram page, where she shared a series of photos from what appeared to be a photoshoot, sending her 307 million followers into a frenzy of speculation ahead of the event.

A Saint Laurent signal?

The choice of designer has not gone unnoticed.

Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello is set to co-chair the 2026 Met Gala Host Committee, and the outing marks Beyoncé’s first full look from the fashion house in at least four years. She had previously limited her Saint Laurent picks to accessories such as stilettos and sunglasses.

While the outing does not confirm what she will wear on the night, the combination of label, timing, and styling has led many observers to connect the dots.

Returning after a decade

Beyoncé is set to co-chair the 2026 Met Gala alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Vogue‘s Anna Wintour. The event takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City under the theme Costume Art, which pairs roughly 200 garments with 200 artworks spanning 5,000 years of history.

Her last appearance at the Gala was in 2016, when she attended in a custom Givenchy Haute Couture creation by then-creative director Riccardo Tisci. This year marks her first co-chair role at the event, having previously served as honorary chair.

The Costume Art exhibition opens to the public on Sunday, May 10, 2026, and runs through Saturday, January 10, 2027.

She aims to steal the show and spice up the Met Gala, adding to the 2025 spectacle where celebrities stepped up in exquisite outfits.
