Woman arrested with 500 litres of Chang’aa in Nyamira
By Ascah Mwango, September 21, 2025Police in Nyamira County have arrested a woman and seized a large consignment of illicit brew following a raid on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
In a statement by the National Police Service (NPS), the operation was carried out by officers from Keroka Police Station after receiving a tip-off from members of the public. Acting on the information, police raided a homestead in Ichuni Sub-Location, where they found 500 litres of Chang’aa and an additional 20 litres of Kangara, a key ingredient used in brewing the illicit liquor.

The authorities said the person of interest was taken into custody and escorted to the police station, where she is expected to face charges in court. The recovered alcohol was placed under secure custody pending further investigations.
Police praised residents for sharing timely information that led to the successful recovery of the illegal liquor. Authorities have urged the public to continue working closely with security agencies in the fight against illicit brews, which remain a major threat to public health and safety in the region.
“Today, 21st September 2025, police officers from Keroka Police Station, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, raided a homestead in Ichuni Sub-Location. They discovered five hundred (500) litres of Chang’aa and twenty (20) litres of Kangara,” the police said.

“One person was arrested and escorted to the station for processing and subsequent arraignment in court. The National Police Service commends the public for their timely intelligence, which led to the successful recovery and arrest.”

This comes just days after police arrested a person of interest in possession of illicit brew and narcotic drugs in Meru County.
On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, a multi-agency security team comprising officers from the National Police Service based at Mulika Police Station and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) conducted an operation in Kang’ethia village targeting illicit brews, narcotics, and illegal gambling.
During the raid, one individual was arrested after being found with 260 litres of Muna and brewing equipment used in the manufacture of illicit alcohol.
“A multi-agency security team, consisting of officers from the National Police Service based at Mulika Police Station and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), today on 16th September 2025, conducted a successful operation targeting illicit brews, narcotic drugs, and illegal gambling within Kang’ethia village,” the police said.
