Toddler’s body discovered in pit latrine after 9-day search in Molo

A wave of shock and sorrow has engulfed Michatha village in Turi Ward, Molo Sub-County, following the grim discovery of a three-year-old boy’s body.

The child had been reported missing nine days earlier, prompting frantic searches by his family and concerned residents who combed the village and surrounding areas in hopes of finding him safe.

The boy’s body was eventually found inside a 45-foot pit latrine, ending a tense and emotional period of uncertainty for the family and the community.

Sources at the scene confirmed that a man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident. According to local sources, the person of interest is under investigation as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Molo Sub-County Police Commander Timon Odingo confirmed the arrest, saying that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are handling the matter.

“He is here with us, detained at Molo Police Station, while awaiting further investigations. Once investigations are complete, the suspect will be produced in court,” Odingo said, urging patience as the investigation continues.

The horrifying discovery has sparked outrage and deep sadness among residents, many of whom gathered at the scene as the child’s body was retrieved.

Community members expressed their grief and demanded swift justice, calling on authorities to ensure that the suspect is held accountable for the tragedy.

“This is a sad event. We want the government to act fast and make sure that this man never walks free again,” said John Kairu, a respected village elder.

Efforts to recover the child’s body were carried out by the Nakuru County Fire and Rescue Department in what proved to be a highly challenging operation.

The rescue team faced significant obstacles due to the extreme depth of the pit, poor visibility, and the inherent risks of the task. After several hours of careful and painstaking work, they successfully retrieved the body, bringing an end to the tense days of searching.

The boy’s body has since been transported to Molo Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it awaits postmortem examination to provide further clarity on the cause of death. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed without interference, while the community continues to mourn the loss of the young child.

The tragic incident has left Michatha village reeling, with many residents expressing concern over child safety and urging local leaders and law enforcement to implement measures that prevent such incidents in the future.
