Short-stay house cleaner Angelica Muthoni, who worked for businesswoman Jane Wairimu at the time of the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu, took to the dock, narrating her encounter with the prime suspect, John Matara.

Muthoni told the court on Monday, July 28, 2025, that she has been working as a cleaner for the short stay houses since 2022, informing the court that she also works at a salon owned by Wairimu at the Sanasana area in South B.

Appearing before Milimani High Court Judge Alexander Muteti, she said that her boss sent her to collect Ksh3,200 from a client who had checked in house number Y32, which was on the fourth floor at Papino Apartment.

“My boss Jane Wairimu sent me to collect money from a client who had checked in at Papino apartment, fourth floor, room Y32,” Muthoni told the court.

Upon arriving at the door of the said house, she knocked, and a man opened the door.

While standing at the door, she informed Matara that she had been sent by Wairimu to collect the money for the house.

She described the accused as a man who was dark, tall, and had a little bit of long hair.

“I did not see the entire body of the man in the house at Papino, but he was wearing a blue shirt,” Muthoni told the court.

He gave her the money and as she was leaving, he reminded her that she had not given her the WIFI password.

“I had not seen the man before, he gave me the Ksh3,200 with his right hand, and as I was leaving, he told me that I had not given him the WIFI password,” Muthoni told the court.

Demands for checking out

Notably, the cleaner told the court that Matara insisted that he wanted to check out of the house the following day at 12 noon.

However, Muthoni insisted that the check-out time was at 10 am

During the court proceedings, the prosecutor asked the witness, who is prosecution witness number six, whether the person in the dock is the same person she met and gave her money at the Papino apartment.

In her response, the cleaner confirmed that “That was the same man at the dock,” Muthoni stated.

She also informed the court that she did not see Matara kill Wahu, adding that she also did not hear any commotion or suspect anything happening at the same house when she was collecting the money.

Additionally, she said she cannot know how many people were in that house at that moment.

The judge adjourned the hearing to Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
