Police seize bhang worth Ksh117K after dramatic chase in Homa Bay
By Mustafa Juma, September 17, 2025Police in Homa Bay have intercepted a major narcotics haul after a dramatic chase along the Ndhiwa–Sori Road.
The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, via X, said that officers from Ndhiwa Police Station were on routine patrol when they flagged down a suspicious motorcycle carrying the rider, two pillion passengers, and a bulky piece of luggage during the morning hours.
“Earlier today, 17th September 2025, police officers from Ndhiwa Police Station were on patrol along the Ndhiwa–Sori Road when they spotted a suspicious motorcycle with the registration number KMGK 059L. The motorcycle was carrying the rider, two pillion passengers, and a large, heavy piece of luggage.” NPS stated.
Police chase
According to the police, the rider defied orders to stop and sped off towards Rodi. A hot pursuit ensued, forcing the persons of interest to abandon the motorcycle and flee into a nearby thicket.
“Upon being flagged down, the rider defied the order and sped off towards Rodi, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby thicket,” the statement read.

Elsewhere, police arrested four people and recovered sacks of bhang hidden in a house.
Motorcycle impounded
NPS further stated that when its officers inspected the abandoned luggage, they uncovered a sack stuffed with 390 rolls of bhang (cannabis sativa), with an estimated street value of KSh117,000.
The motorcycle was immediately impounded, and the bhang was secured as evidence. Detectives say the suspects, who are still at large, are being pursued and will face charges once arrested.
“A search and inspection of the luggage revealed a sack containing 390 rolls of bhang (cannabis sativa), with an estimated street value of KSh 117,000 (one hundred and seventeen thousand shillings). The motorcycle was impounded, and the evidence secured. Meanwhile, police efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the suspects,” the police stated.
The NPS has further reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on narcotics across the country.
