Police recover big cannabis haul in Mpeketoni raid
By Mustafa Juma, November 20, 2025Police in Lamu County have ramped up their fight against illegal drug trafficking following a successful operation in Sefu Village, Bomani, that led to the recovery of cannabis and the arrest of a female person of interest.
Taking to social media on Thursday, November 20, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) stated that officers from Mpeketoni Police Station had conducted a targeted search in the area, where they recovered four large rolls of cannabis sativa hidden within a residential compound. The drugs were immediately secured as evidence at the station.
The woman found at the premises was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court, where she will face charges related to the possession and trafficking of prohibited substances.
“Police in Mpeketoni have intensified their efforts to curb the sale and distribution of illegal drugs, following a successful operation in Sefu Village, Bomani. During the operation, officers searched a property and recovered four large rolls of cannabis sativa. A female suspect was arrested and taken to Mpeketoni Police Station, pending her arraignment in court. The evidence was secured at the same station,” the NPS statement read in part.

Drug supply networks
The NPS further said the recovery is part of a broader, ongoing crackdown aimed at blocking the flow of illegal drugs into communities and dismantling supply networks across the region.
Police noted that Sefu Village and the surrounding areas have recently been under heightened surveillance due to increased reports of drug distribution activities.
NPS has also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public from harmful substances and underscored that similar operations will continue throughout the country. The service urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating the distribution of illegal substances and dismantling the networks involved in the trade.
