Police nab person of interest linked to Vihiga criminal gangs
By William Muthama, September 27, 2025Police have nabbed a person of interest believed to be linked to gang activities in the Esirulo area of Vihiga County.
The arrest was carried out by officers from Emuhaya Police Station in Emuhaya Sub-County at around 2:30 am on Friday, September 26, 2025, during a routine patrol.
In a statement on Saturday, September 27, 2025, shared via X, the National Police Service said the individual was intercepted while armed with a machete. Following the arrest, officers conducted a raid on his residence in Ikaliha Village, recovering various items suspected to be stolen.
“All the items are suspected to be stolen property,” the statement noted, listing four machetes, a sword, a kitchen knife, two balaclavas, military boots, a gas cylinder, school set books, and a Sony radio among the recovered items.
The person of interest was taken into custody pending processing and arraignment, while the exhibits were secured as evidence at the same facility.

The police commended its officers for their diligence, stating, “We commend our officers for their commitment to serving and protecting the public.”
Authorities emphasised that the operation is part of a broader effort to dismantle criminal gangs operating across the country.
“These operations to dismantle criminal gangs will continue countrywide,” the statement said, underscoring the service’s ongoing commitment to public safety.
The NPS also urged members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities.
“We urge the public to continue supporting the service by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Reports can also be made anonymously via the toll-free hotlines,” the statement added.
