Police nab man with bhang at a school gate in Dagoretti
By Cynthia Lodite, August 22, 2025Police in Dagoretti, Nairobi County, have arrested a person of interest at a school gate in an intelligence-led crackdown targeting drug trafficking in Nairobi.
The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared via X on Friday, August 22, 2025, said that the operation was conducted by officers from Muthangari Police Station.
The National Police Service has revealed that at the time of the apprehension, the person of interest, a male adult, was found carrying two pieces of luggage suspected to contain narcotic drugs.
Likewise, the police have revealed that the person of interest was apprehended at Gatina Primary School’s main gate by police who were on patrol within the Kawangware 56 area.
“Yesterday, 21st August 2025, National Police Service officers attached to Muthangari Police Station, while on patrol within the Kawangware 56 area, received intelligence from a member of the public about a suspicious individual sighted at Gatina Primary School’s main gate carrying two pieces of luggage suspected to contain narcotic drugs,” NPS stated.

According to the police, upon searching his two bags, the man was found in possession of at least 8 kg of what is believed to be cannabis sativa (bhang).
“The officers swiftly proceeded to the scene and, upon arrival, found the suspect. He was stopped and, upon conducting a quick search of the two bags, found them to contain 8 kg of what is suspected to be cannabis sativa,” NPS said.
He was taken into custody and is awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts in the fight against narcotics while thanking the public for their cooperation.
“He was arrested and escorted to the station, where he was placed in custody to await arraignment in court. The exhibits were processed and sent to the government chemist for forensic analysis. The National Police Service remains steadfast in the fight against narcotics and appreciates the cooperation from the public,” NPS said.
Vihiga incident
Police officers in Vihiga County apprehended a female found in possession of at least fifteen bundles of bhang following a targeted operation by law enforcers from Mbale Police Station.
In a report by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the operation was conducted in the Mbihi area, focused on cracking down on drug trafficking networks.
“One arrested by Police officers from Mbale Police Station conducted an operation yesterday, August 18, 2025, in the Mbihi area, targeting narcotics traffickers,” NPS noted.
According to the police report, the illegal substance was carefully concealed in a bag.
“During the operation, officers arrested a female suspect who was found in possession of 15 bundles of cannabis sativa (bhang). The suspect was intercepted along Mbihi Road while carrying the drugs, concealed in a bag,” NPS said.
Subsequently, upon her interception, the police officers revealed that she was taken into police custody at the Mbale Police Station, awaiting arraignment in court.
