Police foil livestock theft in Kisumu, recover 2 cows
By David Nthua, November 12, 2025Police officers from Kisumu County have foiled an attempted livestock theft.
In a press statement by the National Police Service via its X handle on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, it has been reported that officers on routine patrol in the Kikomi area spotted a suspicious vehicle.
“They signalled for the driver to stop, but he refused and subsequently abandoned the vehicle before escaping on foot,” the NPS statement reads in parts.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered two cows tied up in the boot, which are suspected to have been stolen.
“The animals were safely secured, and the vehicle was impounded. The Service commends the officers for their vigilance and commitment to duty,” the NPS statement adds.
The recovered cows were taken to a secure location while the police continue investigations to trace the owner and any other parties involved in the theft attempt.
Local community leaders in Kisumu have lauded the swift action, noting that livestock theft has been a growing concern in the area, affecting both farmers and pastoralists.

The National Police Service emphasised that the incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activity.
Residents were urged to cooperate with law enforcement and provide information that could help prevent future crimes.
The Kisumu development comes just hours after the NPS reported a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking.
Elsewhere, residents of Kigumo have decried the rising cases of livestock theft.
