Police destroy 1,100 litres of illicit brew in Kuresoi North
By William Muthama, August 24, 2025The police, led by the Staff Officer Operations (SOOPs) for Kuresoi North, conducted a coordinated operation that destroyed approximately 1,100 litres of illicit brew (Kangara) and related brewing equipment.
The crackdown took place in Ses-Boinet Village, near Bararget Forest, as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal alcohol production in the area.
Speaking through a statement on Sunday, August 24, 2025, via their X account, the police said the operation was intelligence-led and involved a multi-agency security team comprising officers from Sirikwa Police Station and National Government Administration Officers from Nyota Location and Olbumbu Sub-Location.
“Earlier today, the Staff Officer Operations (SOOPs) for Kuresoi North led a multi-agency security team… in an intelligence-led crackdown on illicit brews,” the statement read.
“During the operation, approximately 1,100 litres of illicit brew (kangara) and brewing apparatus were recovered and destroyed.”
Recovered brews destroyed
The multi-agency security team emphasised the importance of the operation in curbing substance abuse in the area.
“The National Police Service affirms its commitment to sustaining the crackdown on illicit and dangerous brews,” the statement said.

“We call upon members of the public to continue supporting the fight against substance abuse.”
Pursuit of persons of interest continues
The persons of interest behind the illicit trade escaped, but authorities say they are being actively pursued
“The multi-agency security team is now pursuing those involved in the illicit trade,” the NPS added, highlighting ongoing efforts to bring offenders to justice.

The operation highlights the National Police Service’s ongoing campaign against illegal and hazardous alcohol production, particularly in rural areas where such substances have repeatedly caused public health concerns.
The service urged communities to remain vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement to eliminate illicit brews from their neighbourhoods.
This is part of the nationwide crackdown targeting illicit brew in the country. Police in various parts of the country have registered progress in this war, backed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
