Proactive policing to enhance safety

Officers from Mtwapa Police Station led the targeted operation as part of NPS’s broader strategy to curb urban crime, especially in areas frequented by both residents and tourists.

According to the NPS statement, the arrested persons of interest were taken into custody for processing and are expected to be arraigned soon. The swift action signals the police’s commitment to ensuring that those involved in criminal activities face the judicial system promptly.

The crackdown reflects NPS’s proactive approach to maintaining law and order along Kenya’s coast, where petty crimes like mugging have threatened public safety and the local economy.

The statement emphasised, “The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and tourists through high-visibility patrols and targeted operations against criminal activities.” Such measures are critical for preserving Mtwapa’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.

Community involvement in crime prevention

The NPS has called on the public to play an active role in crime prevention by reporting suspicious activities. Citizens are urged to notify the nearest police station, post, or camp or use toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112, #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203), or WhatsApp (0709 570 000) for immediate assistance. This collaborative approach seeks to empower communities while reinforcing the police’s ability to respond swiftly to threats.

As the persons of interest await processing, the operation serves as a reminder of NPS’s resolve to safeguard Mtwapa residents and visitors. With continued high-visibility patrols and focused interventions, the police force aims to create a secure environment conducive to peaceful living and economic growth along the Kenyan coast.
