One arrested as police uncover counterfeit honey factory in Buruburu
By Ascah Mwango, October 7, 2025Police have arrested a person of interest linked to a counterfeit honey operation uncovered in the Umoja 2 area of Buruburu Estate.
In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the raid was carried out on Monday, October 6, 2025, during a sting operation led by officers from the Nairobi Region.

According to the authorities, the operation exposed an illegal facility where fake honey was being manufactured. Officers recovered several exhibits from the site, including finished counterfeit honey, chemical substances believed to be used in the production process, a heating coil, and a gas cylinder.
“Police officers from the Nairobi Region have uncovered an illicit operation producing counterfeit honey in the Umoja 2 area of Buruburu Estate. The discovery was made during a well-coordinated sting operation on 6 October 2025. During the raid, officers arrested one suspect and recovered several items believed to have been used in the manufacture of the fake honey,” the statement read in part.

The individual who was arrested at the scene is currently being held at Ruai Police Station and will be arraigned in court. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to establish the scale of the operation and identify others who may be involved.

The police have intensified operations targeting the production and sale of counterfeit food products, describing it as a serious threat to public health and consumer safety.
They have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious manufacturing or distribution activities to help curb the circulation of fake goods.
“The recovered exhibits included finished counterfeit honey, chemical substances used in the production process, a heating coil, and a gas cylinder. The suspect is being held at Ruai Police Station pending arraignment in court,” the statement read.
Adding;
“Operations targeting counterfeit food products and other illicit goods are continuing as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and consumer safety. The National Police Service is urging members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious manufacturing or distribution activities.”
