Man accused of defrauding woman Ksh12M in land scam arrested

Detectives have arrested a person of interest in a case where a woman was defrauded Ksh12 million in a land sale scam in Garissa.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that investigations disclosed that the 44-year-old accused had received the funds in installments through his personal bank account between June 29 and November 21, 2023.
“Kilimani detectives have apprehended 44-year-old Abdi Yusuf Mohamed, accused of defrauding a Kenyan woman out of Sh12 million under the guise of selling her a prime piece of land in Garissa Municipality.
“Investigations revealed that Yusuf received the funds in installments through his personal bank account between June 29 and November 21, 2023,” DCI’s statement reads in parts.
Further investigations from records at the Garissa lands registry revealed that the land in question was registered under a different individual.
“The green card confirmed that the rightful owner has held the title since its original government allocation. Further, the documents Yusuf provided to claim ownership of the land were found to be fraudulent,” the statement reads in parts.
Upon learning this, detectives trailed Abdi Yusuf Mohamed to his hideout in Eastleigh, where he was arrested and booked at Kilimani Police Station.
He is currently being processed before being arraigned.
Folllowing the incident, DCI has called on members of the public to exercise great caution and remain vigilant when conducting land transactions to avoid falling victim of fraudulent schemes.
