“Today, police officers on patrol in Gacagi Trading Centre responded to screams from members of the public and found a man being subjected to mob injustice. The person of interest, together with others who escaped, was allegedly involved in an act of violent robbery. He was successfully rescued by the police, and a homemade firearm with one round of ammunition was recovered. The injured man was first taken to the police station before being escorted to the hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that once he is discharged, he will face charges relating to robbery with violence and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The police further expressed concern over the growing number of mob justice incidents in the country, warning that such actions compromise the rule of law and endanger lives.
“National Police Service wishes to express its deep concern over the alarming rise in incidents of mob injustice and their severe implications for public safety. The public is urged to allow the justice system to take its course, as taking the law into one’s own hands will be met with the full force of the law,” the statement read.
