Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested an assistant chief who is accused of defiling a minor in the Kabianga area of Londiani Sub-County.

In a statement on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, DCI identified the suspect as Douglas Koech Kipkemoi 42, the assistant chief of Kabianga Sub-Location.

The DCI detectives apprehended the assistant chief following a report which was filed by the minor’s parents.

DCI’s statement indicated that the minor’s parents rushed her to a nearby hospital where medical officers confirmed that their child had been defiled.

“The arrest followed a harrowing report from the parents of a 4-year-old minor who had complained of severe pain while passing urine prompting her parents to investigate further,” part of the DCI statement read.

“To their horror, she revealed that she had been defiled by the suspect prompting the parents to immediately take her to Londiani Sub-County Hospital for medical examination and treatment,” it added.

DCI commenced investigations which led to the arrest of the assistant chief. The administrator was later arraigned and he is currently remanded at Milimani GK Prison in Nakuru.

The case is set for mention on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Defilement cases in Kenya

Cases of defilement in the country have been on an upward trajectory. Various reports have revealed a worrying trend threatening the future of young girls.

Despite the rising trend, various government agencies have continued to formulate rules to curb the vice.

Various counties in the country rank among the leading counties with a high prevalence of defilement and teen pregnancies, where the causative agents are poverty, negligence and drug and substance abuse.

Parents have been urged to take an active role in educating their kids in a bid to bring an end to this vice.

In September 2023, a Member of the County Assembly was presented in court with a defilement charge.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti, the Busia county Assembly legislature denied the two charges and was remanded at Korinda GK prison pending a court ruling for the bond application tomorrow.

Efforts by the defense counsel to obtain cash bail and bond were declined by the court for fear of the witnesses’ security.
