4 police officers linked to illegal arms and ammunition trade arrested

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has nabbed four law enforcement officers linked to the illegal arms and ammunition trade that has contributed to insecurity and violence in various parts of the country.

In a statement on X on Saturday, September 27, 2025, the detectives revealed that the four officers were apprehended following a long operation conducted by the Operations Support Unit.

“Detectives from the Operations Support Unit have arrested four law enforcement officers suspected of being behind an illegal arms and ammunition trade that has contributed to insecurity and violence in various parts of the country,” DCI said.

According to DCI, the officials have been under investigation for some time due to their suspected involvement in the illegal trade of firearms and ammunition.

Arrest

Likewise, DCI said their arrest follows days of detailed profiling, surveillance, and forensic investigations by the OSU team, which later bore fruit after one officer was caught pants down receiving a consignment of 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

Detectives say one of the officers was also arrested while in possession of a Remington Rand Model 1911 pistol and two Ceska pistol firing pins,” DCI stated.

The four officers have been processed for arraignment on Monday, 29th September 2025, as the National Police Service vows to pursue anyone who betrays public trust by fuelling violence through the illegal arms trade.
