2 illegal firearms surrendered in Baringo County
Police in Baringo County have received two illegal firearms that were voluntarily surrendered by members of the public on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Tangulbei, within Tiaty East Sub-County.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the surrender marks continued progress in the government’s peace and disarmament efforts across the North Rift region, where illegal possession of firearms has long fuelled insecurity and inter-communal conflict.
In a statement on Thursday, November 13, 2025, NPS commended the cooperation of local leaders and residents for their growing trust and participation in peacebuilding initiatives.
“The voluntary surrender reflects continued public goodwill and trust in the ongoing government-led peace and disarmament initiatives across the North Rift region,” the statement read in part.
This comes after the Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen vowed a relentless crackdown on illegal firearms in the North Rift.
The Police Service also lauded local communities for embracing dialogue and supporting national security operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in areas affected by banditry and cattle rustling.
“The National Police Service commends the collaboration of local leaders and community members for their steadfast support in fostering peace and enhancing regional security,” NPS said.
Authorities urged more residents in possession of illegal firearms to follow suit and hand them over voluntarily, assuring them of safety and confidentiality in the process.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue sharing information to aid in the recovery of illegal firearms and promote community safety,” NPS added.
