The Ethics And Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested 11 officials from the County Government of Vihiga over embezzlement of public funds worth Ksh17 million.

The eleven include the Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. Arnold Kimiyia Mamadi and the Director of Procurement Godfrey Oyaro.

According to EACC, the officials are suspected of having embezzled the funds through fraudulent payments to a ghost project meant for the construction of a blood transfusion centre in Vihiga.

“The suspects allegedly embezzled public funds amounting to Kes.17 million through fraudulent payments for non-existent works in purported construction of a Blood Transfusion Centre in Vihiga to help patients requiring blood transfusion,” EACC announced in a statement.

The suspects who spent the night at Kisumu Port Police Station will appear at the Kakamega Anti-Corruption Court where they are expected to take plea.

The Anti-Corruption Commission has also issued orders to another suspect, Wandera Wamalwa, the Principal Quantity Surveyor, in Vihiga County to report to the EACC regional office in Kisumu. Wandera is thought to be on the run.

“The Commission orders the 12th suspect, Eugene Wandera Wamalwa, Principal Quantity Surveyor, Vihiga County, who is on the run to immediately report to the EACC Regional Office in Kisumu this morning without fail.” The statement read in part.
