The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dispatched detectives to pursue gang members who have been filmed robbing Kenyans during the anti-government protests.
DCI in a statement shared through social media on Tuesday, June 2, 2024, said the gang members had been recorded by concerned citizens violently robbing innocent Kenyans on the roads.
Taking advantage of protests
The gang, according to DCI, took advantage of the demonstrations that were going on across the country.
“DCI teams have been dispatched to pursue gang members recorded by concerned citizens violently robbing innocent Kenyans on the roads while taking advantage of the ongoing demonstrations,” the DCI statement reads in part.
The anti-crime agency further warned that all those involved in criminal activities will be traced to face the full force of the law.
“Anyone involved in the criminal activities are reminded that it is just a matter of time before the long arm of the law catches up with them, and that their felonious acts shall be met with the full force of the law,” the DCI stated.

Nyali MP on protests
Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali in a statement issued through his official X account said that the Tuesday, July 2, 2024 protests had been infiltrated by goons.
The lawmaker pointed out that goons had torched vehicles, robbed innocent women and men while on motorbikes and vandalized businesses, which he has termed as a clear indication that there are other forces at play.
“What we witnessed Today in Mombasa and some parts of our Country including Nairobi, Migori, Kisumu and Kisii is no longer Gen Z-related. Goons infiltrated the planned demonstrations and torched vehicles, robbed innocent Women and Men while on motorbikes and vandalized businesses which is a clear indication that there are other forces at play that seek to see this country Burn and undo over 60 years of development,” Mohammed Ali stated.
The MP has further called for parents, religious leaders, politicians, businessmen and all community stakeholders to come together and call for an end to the protests.
“Parents, Religious Leaders, Politicians, Businessmen and all community stakeholders must come together and call for an end to the ongoing disruption to normalcy. Police must Protect and Safeguard the Lives of innocent Kenyans and their properties,” the lawmaker said in his statement.
