While former Wasafi artists including Harmonize, Rayvanny, and Rich Mavoko clashed with Diamond Platnumz because of their contracts, Zuchu is satisfied with what she signed with the label.
Wasafi was locked in a fierce tussle with Rich Mavoko, Harmonize and Rayvanny when they demanded to leave the label before the expiry of their contracts.
The trio was forced to pay millions of shillings to buy the remainder of their contracts when they quit Wasafi before their contracts expired.
Wasafi slapped Harmonize and Rich Mavoko with Tsh500 million/Ksh23 million fine while Rayvanny was required to pay a whopping Tsh1 billion/Ksh50 million.
Zuchu has a Ksh511 million on her exit clause
While Harmonize and Rich Mavoko were required to pay Wasafi Ksh23 million and Rayvanny Ksh50 million, Zuchu is supposed to pay Diamond’s label Tsh10 billion/Ksh511 million to quit WCB.
Diamond spoke about the Ksh511 million fee on Zuchu’s exit clause while responding to a fan on social media.
“@diamondplatnumz @officialzuchu akitaka kutoka atadaiwa bilioni mbili maana saiv ni msanii mkubwa baada ya bigy (Diamond right now if Zuchu wants to quit Wasafi she will pay Tsh2 billion because she is now the most successful artiste after you),” a fan commented.
Diamond replied;
“@qwixa_azz aah huyo si chini ya 10 billion si unaona manamba yake huko mjini Youtube Baba (Zuchu can’t pay less than Tsh10 billion, can you see the numbers she is pulling on YouTube?)”.
Zuchu has no issue paying the fine
Speaking during an interview with Wasafi FM, Zuchu said she had no issues whatsoever with the contract she signed with WCB since no one forced her to sign it.
The ‘Sukari’ hitmaker explained that every contractual agreement has two sides thus if an issue arises between the parties the artiste knew exactly what they got themselves into.
She however noted that there is always room for negotiations.
“Siku nilioenda kusign nilikuwepo mimi na mamangu mzazi na watu wengine ambao waliokuwa kama mashahidi. Kutoka kwa msanii ni maamuzi binafsi. Akiamua kubaki, akiamua kutoka. Upande wa unyonyaji I do believe kila contractual agreement ilikuwa ina pande mbili za makubaliano. Ulikaa ukakubali kwa hivyo kama nishimo ulijichimbia ulikuwepo wewe na ulijichimbia mwenyewe.
“Kama kuna vitu ulikuwa unataka kutengua unauwezo wakuvitengua mwenyewe. Everything is negotiable. Wasanii wameanza kutoka WCB kabla atasijaingia kama ingekuwa inalingana na chochote ningesign ata mkataba,” she said.
Zuchu’s statement comes as Wasafi has increasingly been condemned for ‘exploiting’ musicians through their contracts.
Wasafi’s top boss Babu Tale, while announcing that the label will soon sign two more artistes, said the WCB henceforth will have witnesses from industry regulators who will oversee the signing process in a bid to eliminate the perception that the label is trapping musicians with the contracts they sign.
“Soon we will sign two artists to join the Wasafi label but this time we have decided that the artist will have two witnesses from COSOTA and BASATA. Music is our business and it is our responsibility to grow and manage this work, we cannot stop no matter what. #theblackgodfather,” Babu Tale wrote.
