Media personality and comedian Steve Maghana, alias Oga Obinna, has broken his silence after photos of his rural home resurfaced online, sparking mixed reactions among Kenyans.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, September 7, 2025, Obinna expressed surprise that a house he built nearly seven years ago had suddenly become the subject of trending conversations and online banter.

“Wueh. A house I built about 7 years ago, ndio inatrend saa hii. Bloggers are having a field day, and so are Kenyans. The comments are hilarious. #binadamu,” he wrote.

Obinna clarified that he was among the first of the new generation of Kenyan celebrities to invest in a rural home.

He explained that he first built a three-bedroom house for his parents before putting up his own two-bedroom home on the family land.

“I built for my parents first (3-bedroom), then nika-piga-boma (agoyo dala) kutoka kwa Simba dad had built kwa boma yake,” he said.

Further, the entertainer revealed that although the house is fully furnished, complete with a shower, toilet, and open-plan kitchen, he only spends a few days there every year.

“I also sleep in this house probably twice a year, yet it’s a fully furnished 2-bedroom… My kids enjoy it for about a week every December,” Obinna added.

Obinna on his success

This comes a few days after he opened up on the backlash he has faced from individuals he says are envious of how far he has come in his career.

Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram account on Monday, September 1, 2025, Obinna addressed the criticisms and negative chatter circulating about him on social media, revealing that he plans to respond publicly and call out the detractors.

He explained that much of the negativity he encounters stems from jealousy and resentment, with some people unable to tolerate seeing him succeed.

“Happy new week. Let’s go out and win. Now, for all those people who have been speaking mud about me on social media, on Friday, I will have a response for you. On Friday, I will make a statement and address you directly. All those enemies, the people full of hatred, envy, and jealousy – my success irritates you,” he said.

He revealed that during a forthcoming statement, he intends to confront these individuals by name, underscoring that he is determined to face the criticism head-on rather than ignore it.

Obinna also stated that just as others have thrown mud at him online, he is prepared to respond in kind, stressing that he does not operate from fear and will not let negativity go unchallenged.
