Wilbroda: Papa Shirandula was disappointed by Jackie Vike’s pregnancy

Speaking on a podcast shared on Instagram on Monday, September 1, 2025, she revealed that the late Charles Bukeko, who starred as Papa Shirandula, was genuinely disappointed when actress Jackie Vike, famously known as Awinja, got pregnant.
Wilbroda described Papa not just as a colleague but as a father figure who felt personally responsible for the young cast members of the show. She recalled that when news of Jackie Vike’s pregnancy reached him, he was visibly upset and made his feelings clear.
“Papa was actually papa to us. When Vike got pregnant, he was not happy. He kept on calling me like, Wee wee, Wilb, unajua nani amepea huyu dem hii something? Sijafurahia, anaweza kupea aje Awinja mimba. He kept calling me, asking who was responsible,” Wilbroda said.
Papa’s protective nature
According to Wilbroda, Papa Shirandula was deeply protective of his cast, treating them as his own children both on and off the screen.
She noted that his anger at Jackie’s pregnancy stemmed not from judgment but from concern about how it might affect her rising career at the time.
“He always wanted to shield and protect us. He really felt like a father figure, and that’s why he reacted the way he did,” she explained.
Wilbroda further emphasised that Papa’s approach was motivated by care, not control. He often checked on the cast, offering advice and guidance in their personal lives. His disappointment, she said, reflected the weight of responsibility he felt in mentoring them.
Jackie Vike’s motherhood journey
Jackie Vike, on her part, embraced motherhood and welcomed her son on June 3, 2017.
When her son turned one, she shared pictures of her child publicly for the first time as he marked his birthday. Alongside the photos, she penned a heartfelt message expressing her joy and gratitude as a mother.
