Terence Creative appeals to artistes to prepare for retirement during their glory days

Comedian Terence Creative has delivered a sobering message to fellow artistes, reminding them that fame is temporary and that the industry has a shelf life which demands financial foresight and preparation.

In a post shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Terence noted that he has witnessed the contrasting treatment artistes receive during their peak years of fame compared to the neglect that follows once the spotlight fades.

He said that the best way to cushion against this reality is for artistes to secure their financial future while they are still earning.

“Dear fellow artists. I have witnessed how they treat you during your fame and hey days; I have also seen how they treat you when fame fades,” he said.

He encouraged artistes to invest in land and to build homes for their families, even if it means starting with simple structures.

He further advised that they should find side hustles, whether it is selling eggs or groundnuts, as long as it creates a steady cash flow to supplement their artistic careers.

“My advice is simple: invest in your future self, get land, build for your family, hata kama ni mabati look for a side hustle, hata kama ni kuuza mayai ama njugu,” he added.

Terence stressed the importance of savings, health insurance, education policies for children, emergency funds and dividend-yielding investments as part of the long-term plan for survival in an unpredictable industry.

He added that artistes must think of retirement while they are still active and not wait until the opportunities dry up.

“Have some cash flow, save, have insurance, get health and education policies for your kids, and also save to have an emergency fund and kitu tu unaweza kulanga dividence,” he said.

Drawing from his own experience, Terence revealed that before stepping into the limelight, he worked behind the scenes in the entertainment industry for over seven years, a period that exposed him to the struggles of many artistes whose careers dimmed after enjoying massive success.

He said this background gave him perspective on the importance of planning early.

“Ask me how I know this,I worked behind the scenes for over 7 years, I’ve seen it all,” he said.

Terence further reminded artistes that the industry will always continue, but individuals must safeguard their own livelihoods and those of their families.

His message was accompanied by the hashtag #ChanuqaMsanii, a call for artistes to awaken to the realities of life after fame.

“Think of your retirement now while you’re making cash. This career of ours also has a shelf life; learn from those who were here before us, long live the industry. #ChanuqaMsaani,” he added.
