Rozina Mwakideu: My biggest mistake in life was marrying Robert Burale

By , October 4, 2025

Gospel minister Rozina Mwakideu has opened up about her short-lived marriage to motivational speaker and pastor Robert Burale, describing it as the biggest mistake of her life and the darkest period she has ever gone through.

Speaking when her brother Alex Mwakideu hosted her for an interview on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Rozina revealed that her marriage to Burale lasted only one year and two days before it collapsed, leaving her emotionally drained and questioning the intentions behind their union.

She said she has since healed and moved on, but even at 50, she still considers the marriage her greatest regret.

“I married Burale in August 2012, just a year after we met. My mother had warned me and said she saw darkness in that marriage. Looking back, I can say the biggest mistake of my life was marrying Robert Burale. The darkest period of my life was when I was with him. That is it. I have grown, I have healed, and I have moved on. But even now, at 50 years old, my biggest mistake in life remains marrying Burale,” she shared.

Dating journey

Rozina narrated that at the time she was living in Mombasa, and on one occasion informed Burale that she would be travelling to Nairobi to visit her brother, media personality Alex Mwakideu.

She said Burale agreed, but upon arrival in Nairobi, he picked her up and instead took her to his family home in Karen, where she ended up staying for close to a month.

“At that time, I was living in Mombasa. So one day I told Burale that I was coming to Nairobi to visit my brother Mwakideu. He agreed and said it was fine. When I arrived in Nairobi, he picked me up and took me to Karen. I told him that I wanted to go to my brother’s place, but instead, he took me to his home in Karen,” she narrated.

She explained that during her stay, they lived in the same room and shared a bed, but remained celibate throughout.

According to her, Burale’s mother was very fond of her and treated her well, but she began noticing red flags in her relationship, including dishonesty and emotional manipulation.

“When we got there, we stayed together in one room, but nothing happened between us. We were both celibate. We slept in the same bed, and we stayed there for almost a month without anything happening. His mother loved me very much, but as time went on, I began to notice a few issues here and there, including lies,” Rozina added.

Rozina recounted that she would often tell Burale she wanted to visit her brother, but he would postpone it repeatedly, telling her she would go tomorrow, a promise that was never fulfilled.

She eventually realised that he had no intention of letting her leave, which made her question his motives and whether his desire to marry her was genuine.

“For instance, I would tell Burale that I wanted to go visit my brother, but he would say I would go tomorrow, and that tomorrow never came. That is when I realised he did not intend for me to leave. I think he kept me there because he was very eager to marry me. To this day, I still wonder why he married me. I do not think it was out of love,” Rosina added.

Red flags

Rozina added that soon after she started dating Burale, she began receiving anonymous messages and social media warnings from people advising her to be cautious, claiming that they knew worrying things about him.

She said she confronted Burale about these allegations, but he dismissed them, saying the people spreading the rumours were simply envious of him.

“No woman would reject genuine love from a man. What he had were only sweet words about what he wanted for us, but his actions did not match his words. When I started dating him, people began sending me anonymous messages on social media warning me and asking if I really knew him well.”

The preacher revealed that one day she decided to leave the relationship after feeling overwhelmed by the emotional strain.

She said she waited for a moment when both Burale and his mother were away, packed her belongings, and called a taxi using a number she had received from his mother.

However, just as she was preparing to leave, one of Burale’s cousins spotted her and called him. Moments later, Burale’s car appeared at the gate, forcing the taxi driver to leave, and she broke down in tears, feeling trapped and defeated.

“I might be wrong, but I think Robert wanted to keep me close so that I would not find out much about him. When I asked him about what people were saying, he told me that they were just jealous. Eventually, I decided I would run away. One day, his mother had gone out and so had he. I packed my things, called a taxi driver whose number I had gotten from his mother, and prepared to leave. But one of his cousins saw me and called him. Out of nowhere, Burale showed up at the gate in his car. The taxi driver left, and I broke down crying because I was ready to go,” Rozina narrated.
