Gospel artiste Alex Apoko alias Ringtone now says he quit gospel music because of women.

Speaking to a local publication, Ringtone intimated that his decision to quit the industry was highly influenced by women who ‘threw themselves at him’ instead of focusing on his efforts to spread the word of God.

“I quit gospel music because instead of women following the Christ that I preach they end up loving me. That’s why I am taking a short break so that these women would focus on Jesus and leave me alone,” he stated.

The ‘Pamela’ hitmaker alluded that his decision was well-received by his colleagues in the gospel industry since they always saw him as a threat.

“Most of them are very happy because they always viewed me as a threat. You know most of them thought I was the reason they weren’t succeeding,” he stated.

Ringtone joins secular

The controversial artiste announced that he was venturing into secular music, barely a day after he announced his departure from the gospel industry.

He took to his official Instagram account to appreciate his fans for always supporting him.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported me during my journey as a gospel artiste,

“The journey has ended as I have now decided to venture into love songs, therefore I am asking for your support, for the artistes singing love songs, I’m asking that you don’t see me as a competition, let’s work together so that we are able to take music where it needs to be, bye-bye gospel,” he lamented.

Following his exit, Ringtone will be joining other Kenyan artistes such as Bahati, Willy Paul, Jimmy Gait, Wheezman, and Havoc, who also exited the gospel industry on different occasions.
