Rachael Otuoma calls on Pastor Kanyari to step in for arrested best friend Kawira

Kenya’s TikTok scene rarely goes more than a fortnight without a story so gripping it has everyone on the popular video-sharing app glued to their screens, sharing, commenting, and dissecting every twist.

Just days after popular creator Hanna Benta’s dramatic breakup with her hubby, Captain Sammir, had captivated audiences nationwide, a new controversy has taken centre stage.

This time, attention has turned to Kawira, a popular TikTok creator, who is said to be under police custody following claims that she shared another person’s private photos without consent, igniting discussions online.

In response, Ezekiel Otuoma’s widow, Rachael, has publicly urged Pastor Kanyari to intervene on her behalf, emphasising that Kawira should not have to seek bail donations on TikTok and appealing for a discreet resolution of the matter.

Speaking in a TikTok live on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, she highlighted that Pastor Kanyari, as a man of God, could easily provide the funds required for Kawira’s bail, noting that the amount is minor for him and that his intervention could prevent Kawira from experiencing humiliation.

“Daddy Kanyari, please help your daughter so she is not forced to beg on TikTok. Man of God, just provide the money; it will be enough. Your exceptional child should not spend the night in detention. That amount is nothing for you,” she said.

She has also stressed that Kawira’s predicament was compounded by the potential embarrassment of having to request contributions online, particularly on TikTok, where such matters quickly gain public attention.

She described Kawira as an exceptional young woman who should not be forced to spend time in detention over the issue.

“Do not let your child be humiliated because she has been asked to raise Ksh500,000 for a bond,” Rachael said.

The TikToker also addressed reports that Kawira had voluntarily submitted herself to the police rather than being arrested at her home, insisting she would never have done the same in her place.

She added that the officers would need to carry out their work in locating her, while urging calm as more TikTokers pledged their support amid Kawira’s ongoing legal troubles.

“I heard she received a formal notice, so she submitted herself to the police. I would never have allowed that. She is at Gigiri Police Station,” she added.
