Otile Brown hits back at Savara for calling him East Africa’s most overrated artiste

Kenyan R&B singer Jacob Obunga, popularly known as Otile Brown, has slammed Sauti Sol boy band producer Savara Delvin Mudigi after he appeared in an interview and labelled him one of East Africa’s most overrated artistes.
Taking to his Instagram page on Thursday, March 27, 2025, Otile Brown dismissed his remarks with laughter and mockery, asserting that it was absurd to call him overrated when he seemingly could not stop discussing him.
According to the ‘One Call’ hitmaker, Savara’s fixation on him suggested he was actually preoccupied with his success and viewed him as a formidable competitor—not that he genuinely believed he was an overrated artiste, as he had insinuated.
“The obsession—if I’m not a threat, then why do y’all keep dissing? I love it. Savaraaaa,” Otile shared.

The GOAT
In a separate video, Otile Brown took his rebuttal further, taking direct aim at Savara, even dismissing one of his latest tracks, ‘Sianda’, while proclaiming himself the GOAT of East African music.
He exalted himself as the number one artiste globally and claimed that Savara was merely envious, as he recognised his immense talent and the widespread admiration he commands.
In his own words, people are enthralled by his music because his songs tell compelling stories, and he possesses an unmatched ability to convey emotions through his singing—something he believes sets him apart from most East African artistes.
“Onayo Sianda, haha. I can’t be losing while Ninjas are winning, bro, but Ninjas are still worried about me, and they are still hating… Mimi kuanzia leo nataka mniite number moja. Naendesha muziki, dunia muziki. Nobody can sing better than me. Kuanzia leo mi ni muimbaji number moja, mi niko juu bro.”

Further, Otile hailed himself as the king and urged all those who never feel emotions or a godly connection while listening to his R&B hits to check with their souls as something might be amiss.
“I never wanted to be king, but I understand now. I wanted to be a vessel—it’s bigger than me, it’s bigger than the position. If you don’t feel God in my music, then you need to check your soul.”
Overrated Singer
Otile was referencing an interview that has been trending online, featuring the ‘Reggae ya Kinyozi’ crooner, when he was hosted by podcaster Stephanie Ng’ang’a and participated in a quick-fire session about various matters in the music scene, including the artistes he loathes and likes.
During the session, Stephanie Ng’ang’a posed a direct question, asking him—given his extensive exposure to the African music scene—who he considered the most overrated singer in East Africa.
Without hesitation, Savara named Otile Brown, asserting that despite his vast experience traversing the East African music scene, he had never encountered an artiste as overhyped as Otile Brown.
However, he declined to elaborate on the specifics behind his claim, stating that his response was final and required no further justification.
“The next one—you have worked with the biggest artistes in East Africa. Which are some of those you have encountered and feel are the most overrated? And your time starts now,” Stephanie Ng’ang’a asked.
“Otile Brown,” Savara responded, raising his hands as if to indicate he had no intention of explaining himself further.
