Lydiah Wanjiru shares how caring for Frank Doso in ICU has changed her life

Digital creator Lydiah Wanjiru has opened up about the profound changes she has experienced while caring for her boyfriend, Frank Doso, who has been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following a tragic balcony fall.

In an Instagram story on Monday, July 21, 2025, days after appealing for blood donations on his behalf, Lydiah revealed the emotional and physical toll of this season, describing it as one of the most difficult moments of her life.

“I did not know if I would ever enjoy showing acts of service as a love language until this season. I run when Doso or the hospital asks me to bring something. I actually feel so fulfilled doing it!,” she wrote.

She shared that caring for Doso has taught her a new perspective on love, particularly in the form of acts of service.

She explained how she finds herself running to fulfil any need from Doso or the hospital, and that the constant errands, waiting, and follow-ups have become her new routine.

Lydiah revealed that most of her time is now spent praying, holding on to faith as she hopes for his recovery.

“This has been my routine: sitting and waiting to be asked for something, following up on updates, and 90 per cent praying,” she shared.

Reigniting old passion

The waiting has also reignited her old passion for writing, which she now uses to document her thoughts, prayers, and the journey of this difficult period.

She described writing as a source of relief and a way to capture the intensity of emotions she has been experiencing.

“Sitting and waiting has brought back an old habit – writing. I put down everything, prayers and thoughts. It brings a bit of relief! Also, a way to document this season. A season I have never been in and I would not wish it on anyone.”

Lydiah admitted that this has been a season unlike any other, one she would not wish on anyone.

She also spoke about the toll it has taken on her own health, revealing that stress and anxiety have affected her eating habits to the point where she has struggled with her digestive system for more than two weeks.

She shared that she has resorted to drinking okra water to help her metabolism, but her appetite remains low.

“Also, I have not gone number 2 in 16 days. I have not been eating well, especially over the last week. Since I fear using a laxative right now, I have been drinking okra water morning and evening since Saturday. It helps me with speeding metabolism, hence easier bowel movement. But I still feel nothing, and I do not feel like eating.”

Despite these challenges, Lydiah expressed fulfilment in standing by Doso’s side and offering every ounce of support she could, reaffirming her hope and prayer for his full recovery.
